Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I pay when I get there ? up arrow
A. No. All our prices are based on pre-payment. This is how we are able to save you money! You can book through some companies and pay when you get there but this is invariably more expensive for you.. Why ? Because the car rental companies have learned over the years that many people who've not actually paid for their car don't turn up !

Q. What about CDW ( Collision Damage Waiver ) - am I covered ? up arrow
A. Yes. All our rentals include :

  • Unlimited mileage except Banff / Jasper in Canada and Australia and certain car types worldwide.
  • Mandatory insurances.
  • Collision damage waiver liability.
  • Theft waiver.
  • Airport surcharges, with the exception of Israel.
  • Bail bonds (where needed).
  • All local taxes except Australia where taxes are paid locally by law.

Q. What is NOT included in my rental ? up arrow
A. The following items are NOT included :

  • Personal accident insurance (PAI).
  • Additional non-mandatory insurances.
  • Insurance exclusions.
  • Fuel: a deposit is often payable for fuel and is usually refunded if the car is returned with a full tank. Fuel policies vary. Please check when you pick up your car.
  • Garaging, tolls, congestion charges, parking and traffic fines.
  • Additional drivers charges where applicable - If you are not sure email your account manager - info@aef-auto-rentals.com
Where additional driver charges are applicable they are payable locally when you collect your car.
  • Out of hours charges.
  • Optional extras.
  • One-way rental charges where applicable.
  • Young drivers charges where applicable.
  • Licence fees in Barbados and Jersey.

Q. Do I need to purchase Damage Excess Waiver when I book my car ? up arrow
A. You are not obliged to purchase DEW (Damage Excess Waiver) when you book your car but, for peace of mind, we strongly advise it. If you are unfortunate enough to damage your car, even slightly, you could be liable to pay the Excess on the insurance. DEW covers the excess amount you may be liable for. You may have to pay the exess to the rental company if the car is damaged but you can fully reclaim the amount upon your return on production of a completed accident report form supplied by the car rental partner.
THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT COVERED BY CDW or DEW under any circumstances :

  • DEW (and CDW) do not apply in relation to damage to windows/windscreens, wheels and tyres, the underside and the roof, the interior of the car, towing charges or where the vehicle is driven off-road or on un-tarmacked roads, without due care and attention, negligently or where the driver is under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Your liability to pay the cost of the damage will therefore not be waived in these circumstances and you may be liable for the full cost.
  • In the event that keys are lost or damaged, you will be liable for the reasonable costs of obtaining a replacement, and further costs if directly related to the theft of the car.
  • DEW does not apply when taking four-wheel drive vehicles "off road" or on un-tarmacked roads. Your liability to pay the CDW excess will therefore not be waived in these circumstances and you may be liable for the full excess.

Q. Why do I have to give my Card details when I collect my car ? up arrow
A. Car rental companies take a Credit Card impression as security to ensure the safe return of the vehicle. Remember, rental companies only have the Driving Licence and Credit Card details to provide information concerning the client. So, to minimise the likelihood of wilful damage to, or non return of the vehicle, they take an impression to ensure it's safe and timely return.

Q. Where do I go to pick up the car? Have you a desk at the Airport ? up arrow
A. The pick up address and instructions will be on your voucher.
.
Q. What happens if the car breaks down ? up arrow
A. There is an emergency number on your voucher, plus, the rental company will give you their own emergency contact number which you should call if the vehicle breaks down or you're involved in an accident.
